YEREVAN. - A proposal was made to hold a civil initiative flashmob with posters during Pope Francis’ visit to Gyumri’s Vardanats Square at 11:00 am, as well as the ecumenical ceremony and peace prayer in Yerevan’s Republic Square to inform the Pope on the political prisoners in Armenia.

According to the statement issued by Armenia’s Founding Parliament radical opposition group, the police massively violated the right and the freedom of movement of hundreds of people. Others have allegedly been subjected to physical violence and taken to different police departments depriving them of freedom.

“The actions of the police are apparently illegal and violate the fundamental human rights and freedoms,” the statement reads.

Among the detained are Shahen Harutyunyan, Gagik Yeghiazartyan, Ramik Manukyan, Tigran Manukyan, Vahram Petrosyan Paylak Tevanyan, Tigran Mazmanyan (a journalist), Tigran Kirishchyan, Elmon Yeghnukyan, Mikayel Nazaryan, Sergey Kyureghyan, Nerses Gevorgyan, Sevak Manukyan and Hovhannes Ghazaryan.
