A multilevel policy is developed toward international recognition of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh), President Bako Sahakyan told Lenta.ru, a Moscow-based online newspaper. 

“And we already have notable successes in this realm,” added Sahakyan. “We continue expanding our respective activities. (…) NKR has truly earned international recognition. We are building a democratic state for about a quarter of a century, and which does not pose a threat to international community, or any individual country.”

When asked about Russia’s role, the President of Artsakh noted that Russia is one of the three countries, including the US and France, which co-chair the official international organization, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group, which conducts a mediation mission to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with Azerbaijan.

“We highly appreciate the [respective] contribution by each of these countries,” stated Sahakyan. “We closely follow the processes of exercising the right of peoples to self-determination in different corners of the world. (…) [NKR capital city of] Stepanakert carries out targeted to work toward recognition of the independence of the Artsakh Republic. This process has become more active over the past several years.”
