NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told Reuters news agency that the Turkish army is still strong, despite the cleaning in its ranks after the military coup in the country, Reuters reported.

“Turkey has a large armed force, professional armed forces and ... I am certain they will continue as a committed and strong NATO ally,” Stoltenberg stated.

He also declared that he expects that the reaction of the Turkish authorities to the coup will be in complience with the values of NATO. Stoltenberg added that the question of revision of Turkey's membership in the alliance has not been considered.

"It is important for all of us that Turkey continue to be a strong NATO ally because Turkey is on the border of all the instability, all the violence we have seen in Iraq and Syria," he said.
