Dmitry Peskov, the Russian presidential spokesperson, said he has no information that Russia had allegedly alerted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan about the planned military coup in Turkey, reported RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.

“I don’t know which sources this [news] agency refers to,” Peskov added when asked whether this information is accurate.

Arab media had reported that Russia had notified Erdoğan about the planned military coup, several hours before it started.

According to sources, Turkish national intelligence had received a forewarning from the Russian Ministry of Defense (MOD) regarding the planned coup.

They added that the Russian MOD probably used the country’s aerospace equipment at Khmeimim Air Base in Syria to catch and decode the radio messages of the coup supporters.

A group of military servicemen attempted a coup in Turkey, from late night on July 15 to early morning on July 16, but it failed. More than 260 people, however, died in the ensuing clashes.
