On October 9, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan had a farewell meeting with French Ambassador to Armenia Serge Smossow, who ends his diplomatic mission in the country.

Serzh Sargsyan thanked Smessow for his contribution to the improvement of Armenia-France relations, RA Presidential press service informed NEWS.am.

“I am sure today Armenia-France relations are at a higher level than they were in 2006, when you were appointed a French Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia. You greatly contributed to the bilateral political dialogue, strengthening economic ties and fostering French culture in Armenia,” Sargsyan said.

The President thanked France, as a Minsk Group co-chair country, for its contribution to preserving regional stability and peace, as well as efforts and readiness for assisting Armenia’s European integration process.

The diplomat thanked the Armenian President for such an appraisal and Armenian people’s warm attitude towards France.

As NEWS.am reported previously, a French Foreign Ministry official named Reno will replace Serge Smessow. There are rumors Smessow will replace OSCE Minsk Group French Co-Chair Bernard Fassier.
