YEREVAN. - Armenia’s Founding Parliament radical opposition member Alec Yenikomshian was arrested on Saturday.

His attorney Nikolay Baghdasaryan wrote on his Facebook page: “The hearing on choosing arrest as a preventive measure ended while ago. The hearing was presided by Judge Mesrop Makyan of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts. The hearing was unique also by the conduct of Judge M. Makyan. I got an impression that Alec Yenikomshian had committed a crime against the judge and he had found a convenient moment to punish him. Makyan’s conduct (“Stand up, I’m telling you”, “You’ll sit down when I tell you”) (unfortunately I can’t express the judge’s tone) towards a man with disabilities was absolutely not in line with the image of an impartial judge. As a result of the hearing, he decided to arrest Yenikoshian for two months.”

Alec Yenikomshian was detained on July 27. He is suspected of assisting the armed group seizing Yerevan’s Erebuni police station.
