The preparation for signing an Agreement on Establishing United Military Group of the Russian and Armenian Armed Forces is coming to its end.

Deputy Defense Minister of Russia Anatoly Antonov told the aforementioned to journalists after the meeting between the defense ministers of both countries, RIA Novosti reports.

During the talks, the Russian Defense Minister also proposed to his Armenian counterpart Seyran Ohanyan to sign an agreement on cooperation in the areas of identifying and assessing radiation, chemical and biological situation in the interest of the United Military Group of both countries. The agreement was signed.

“Its implementation will allow to precisely regulate the joint actions in this sphere and provide timely and necessary information to the group,” Antonov said.  

He also stressed that the Russian military agency is considering Armenia as its ally and key partner in the South Caucasus.

“We effectively cooperate in the bilateral format and in the framework of international organizations - first of all within the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which the Armenian side chairs this year.  The high-level cooperation between the military agencies allows to operatively decide the current tasks of cooperation and timely react to the changes happening in the region,” the Deputy Defense Minister said.

In his words, over 50 agreements and treaties have been signed between Armenia and Russia in the military sphere, the work on the further development of the legal framework being underway.

“Decision-making mechanisms in the sphere of security have been formed and are actively applied; joint military planning is [also] carried out,” Antonov noted.
