A young Armenian died after being hit by a car in the US State of California.

Authorities have identified the man who was struck and killed by a car in Sherman Oaks, on the night of August 20, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

The victim was Armen Hakhnazaryan, 21, of Sherman Oaks, said Ed Winter, assistant chief of Operations and Investigations for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.

Hakhnazaryan was struck about 9:10pm by a black Honda Civic at an intersection.

The car was being driven by a 17-year-old Canoga Park resident.

The driver had stopped immediately and remained at the scene.

The pedestrian was crossing the street in an unmarked crosswalk at the time of the accident, according to police. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The teenager was booked for vehicular manslaughter and released to his parents.

The investigation into this incident is still in progress.
