September 1 is observed in numerous countries, including Armenia, as Knowledge Day, when the beginning of the new academic year is celebrated.

Traditionally, schools in Armenia hold festive events on that day, and devoted to the start of the new school year.

Especially the first-graders welcome this day with a particularly jovial manner.

This year, more than 1,450 elementary schools in Armenia will open their doors before children.

Events devoted to Knowledge Day will be held Wednesday in all schools in the country.

This year, 40 thousand children in Armenia will attend school for the first time, and this is about 2,000 more than in the year past.

Narine Hovhannisyan, Head of the Public Education Department at the Ministry of Education and Science, had informed that this year’s Knowledge Day celebrations differ from the other academic years, since this year we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s independence, and therefore various respective events are planned.
