YEREVAN. – Meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO PA) observation delegation was convened Saturday in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The event was chaired by National Assembly (NA) of Armenia Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov, who also heads the Armenian NA delegation to the CSTO PA, the NA informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The discussants underscored the democratic nature of conducting the forthcoming elections of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of Russia.

On the same day, Sharmazanov met with Governor Alexander Drozdenko of the Leningrad Oblast (province) of Russia.

The Armenian parliament deputy speaker noted that the electoral processes in the CSTO member countries—including Armenia—are very important in terms of national security, and this is also why the CSTO PA observation delegation highlights the lawful and transparent conduct of elections.

The interlocutors stressed the importance of holding elections that comply with democratic values, and ensuring pluralism and transparency in the CSTO member states.
