At least 162 people have drowned in the crash of the ship with migrants onboard at the coast of Egypt, near Alexandria, DW reported quoting the governor of Beheira province Mohammed Sultan.

According to him, 164 people were saved. A resuce operation and search of possible survivors are underway.

It should be noted that the ship with migrants onboard crashed off the coast of Egypt on September 21. The total number of passengers is still unknown. Middle East news agency MENA reported that there were 600 people onboard the ship. Other media provided data on 300-400 refugees.  Among them there were citizens of Egypt, Syria, Sudan, Somalia and Eritrea.
