YEREVAN. – The conduct of elections under the proportional electoral system in Gyumri and Vanadzor towns is a very positive step, said Emin Yeritsyan, president of the Union of Communities of Armenia, at a press conference on Saturday.

Reflecting on the local government elections that were held on September 18 , he noted that elections are assessed not solely with their compliance to the procedure of the electoral process, but with their political significance.

“The electoral process was technically perfect in the elections of September 18. The organizational level was higher, as compared with previous elections,” added Yeritsyan. “But the same can’t be said about the [political] parties’ running in the elections.”

Emin Yeritsyan noted, however, that election bribes do not affect the overall electoral process.

Local government elections were conducted on September 18, in 317 communities in Armenia.

The next local elections in numerous other communities are slated for October 2.
