The Regional Council of Basilicata, Italy, unanimously recognized Armenian Genocide, and it expressed its support to the Armenian people.

The respective resolution was introduced by independent MP Aurelio Pace, upon the request of the Armenian community.

The document notes that the historical reality of Armenian Genocide has been recognized by numerous international organizations as well as the Turkish Military Tribunals in 1919.

Also, the resolution stresses the need to raise public awareness—especially among the young generation—about the tragedy which Armenian people have survived, so as to prevent the recurrence of such crimes in the future.

The Regional Council of Basilicata has become the 108th local government in Italy to recognize Armenian Genocide.
