About $ 173.6 m (AMD 62.5 b), making 1.66% of GDP, will be allocated to healthcare sector from 2011 budget. However, according to the stable development program, health care’s share of GDP should make about 2%, Armenian Deputy Finance Minister Pavel Safaryan said at today’s discussions of the draft budget.

Deputy Minister explained the difference between draft budget and stable development program by financial crisis Armenia faced within recent years.

During debates, MP Markosyan said that 2% is insufficient for normal course of health care system. Experts estimate that public funds allocated to health care sector should make at least 3% of GDP.

According to Safaryan, if Health Ministry manages to get $20 m loan from the World Bank financing of health care sector will get closer to 2% of GDP in 2011.
