The European delegates to the CE forum for Democratic Future in Yerevan have formed the right opinion of Armenia. In private talks they voiced their concern over the situation in the country, Zaruhi Postanjyan, a member of the Heritage Party, told NEWS.am.

“Talking to me, many of the delegates stated that the situation is really critical in Armenia,” she said. She is severely critical of the PACE Co-Rapporteur on monitoring of Armenia John Prestcott, who refused to talk to journalists, pleading he arrived in Armenia as a reporter. “If he really arrived in the country as a reporter, why has he held meetings with the authorities and the Opposition as PACE co-rapporteur on monitoring of Armenia? If he held the meetings, he must talk to Armenian journalists about them for the same of transparency,” Postanjyan said.

Vahan Hovhannisyan, Chairman of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF-D) parliamentary faction, told NEWS.am that the European institutions’ strategy of establishing democracy is wrong. According to him, the same principles cannot be applied to all the countries, but a differentiated approach is needed.

Chairman of the Armenian delegation to PACE David Harutyunyan said that forums help to reveal numerous problems and threat to democratic development. “We should not expect all the problems to be resolved after each forum,” Harutyunyan said.
