NATO multinational battalions should be deployed to the Baltic states and Poland by June 2017, U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO Douglas Lute stated.

Lute told reporters that these battalions should arrive by June 2017 to achieve full operational readiness noting that about 20 allies contributes to these efforts, RIA Novosti reported.

The U.S. ambassador stated that four countries, leading the battalions, four host countries and also 10-12 NATO allies would join these efforts.

The decision of creating four multinational battalions in the Baltic states and Poland on the basis of rotation was made at the NATO meeting held in Warsaw in July. Canada will send soldiers to Latvia, Germany to Lithuania, the UK to Estonia and the U.S. to Poland.
