The current wave of violence against dissenters in Turkey is a checking process for Europe, especially for Germany, considers the former editor in chief of the Turkish opposition newspaper Cumhurriyet Jan Dyundar. According to him Europe and Germany must decide either they are taking the side of democracy or repressions, reports the DW.

"Do they want to see Turkey in the Middle East as a persecuting regime or a democratic state, a free secular country. This is a litmus test for the whole Europe and for Germany, in particular," said the former editor in chief. "Better the authorities tell that they will not tolerate any dissident’s voice or a slightest opposition. That would be the truth, " said Jan Dyundar. The Turkish authorities arrested the leadership and journalists of Cumhurriyet on the morning of October 31.
