Bilateral relations with Turkey are enormously important for U.S., White House press secretary Robrt Gibbs told the briefing on December 21, commenting on President Obama’s reaction to the letter sent by Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The journalists also asked Gibbs whether President talked with any congressional leader regarding the letter which mentioned about Turkey’s serious concern on Armenian resolution in Congress. “I do not know that the President -- I do not believe that the President has made any calls specifically on this, and I think his views on this are known,” Gibbs said.

As NEWS.am reported earlier, in the course of morning session H.Res.252, the Armenian Genocide resolution, was not put on the congressional agenda. However, it is still probable to be discussed.

U.S. State Department strongly opposes the Armenian Genocide resolution, while Turkey is actively trying to hamper its discussion in the Congress. Turkish Premier Erdogan and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu had conversation with Hillary Clinton asking her to do everything for the resolution not to be adopted.

As NEWS.am reported previously, on March 4, 2010 the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee approved HR 252 by 23 votes to 22.
