A group of journalists writing about science has been recently created in Armenia. Group’s mission is to develop scientific journalism in the country.

Talking to NEWS.am-Innovation, Areg Mikaelyan, coordinator of the group, Co-Chairman of the Armenian Astronomical Society and researcher at the Byurakan Observatory, said that members of the group will get a chance to be informed of urgent news in science and exchange information.

“According to global statistics, 50-90% of scientific publications at some extent refer to astronomy, astrophysics, spaceflights and aliens. This is the reason we decided to set up such group to spread information among its members,” he said. According to him, group members can receive information by e-mail or visiting Facebook group of scientific journalism.

“I think journalists and scientists should establish cooperation. It is difficult for a journalist to write an article not communicating with scientists,” Mikaelyan noted, adding that scientists should be more open to provide information accessible to general audience.

Mikaelyan also stressed that group members will be invited to the Byurakan Observatory to learn scientific news and discuss issues related to scientific journalism.
