It is time to raise the legal aspect of the massacre of Armenians in the Azerbaijani citys of Baku, Sumgait, said member of the Heritage Party Larisa Alaverdyan to NEWS.am.

She stressed the need to attract the legal community to this issue and to bring Azerbaijan to legal responsibility of for those crimes.  “We need to obtain compensation from Azerbaijan for the victims and descendants of victims of the Armenian massacres, said Alaverdyan.

She suggested this objective is quite feasible, noting that it requires additional resources, including financial ones. “Now it is too late to raise this issue merely on awareness, or societal levels, it is necessary to focus on the legal aspects”, summarized the MP.

On this day, 21 years ago, tragic events that occurred in the multinational, but not at all tolerant, city of Baku, shocked the entire world. On January 13, 1990, after a regular rally of the national fascist Popular Front of Azerbaijan (PFA), several thousands of brutalized “humans” went raiding the homes of Armenian residents.

The distinctive feature of the unprecedented ethnic pogroms in the capital of one of the Soviet republics – when the USSR was in its death throes – was that attacks and murders had been thoroughly planned, with lists of Armenians put up at the PFA headquarters.
