Armenia should decide on the recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence, Prof. Vladimir Zakharov, Director of the Institute for Political and Social Research of the Black Sea and Caspian region, told journalists.

“What is Armenia afraid of?,” the expert stressed, pointing out Russia, which recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia despite the international “fuss”. He stressed Yerevan should recognize Karabkh’s independence before the possible resumption of hostilities by Azerbaijan. In this case, Armenia will have a legal right to provide a military aid to Karabakh. The expert considered it possible to recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh in the foreseeable future, as NKR is an established state.
