The crushing defeat of Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union at the local elections in Hamburg, Germany, provided an opportunity for two Turks to get into the parliament.

MPs of the Hamburg Parliament Mehmet Yildiz and Kazim Abajin were born in the Turkish city of Kayseri.

Kazim Abadzhin represented Social Democratic Party, which gained 48% of the votes, whereas Mehmet Yildiz-Left Party.

As Armenian News - NEWS.am reported earlier, leftist Mehmed Yildiz was opponent to the representative of the Armenian community of Hamburg, a member of the same party Toros Saryan.

During the inner-party discussions Saryan asked Yildiz about his position on the Armenian Genocide. Yildiz stressed in 1915 Turkey committed a crime against the Armenians and perpetrated a genocide. Yildiz was elected to represent the party due to this bold statement.
