YEREVAN. – The Armenian government is fully committed to its obligations of protection and promotion of human rights. The nonviolent democratic revolution that took place in Armenia best proves that, as a rule, human rights function effectively if they become part of public consensus and are perceived as universal social and moral values.

The aforesaid is noted in the official statement which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia has issued in response to international organizations.

It is also noted in the statement that, in this context, Armenia’s international partners should show greater respect and sensitivity toward the Armenian society, and abstain from unnecessary directing of public debates—even if they do not agree with their tone.

Furthermore, the Armenian MFA recalled that the principle of public morality is part of international human rights obligations, and they cannot be disregarded.

As per the statement, the Armenian authorities, in their turn, will not tolerate any unlawful action, and they will continue to defend the constitutional rights of all citizens.

As reported earlier, a statement issued on behalf of the Delegation of the European Union and the EU member states embassies resident in Armenia has reflected on a transgender person’s recent speech during the National Assembly hearings, and the respective developments.
