Russia is Armenia’s key partner and the Heritage party represents majority striving to establish strategic partnership with Moscow built on mutual respect, party’s leader Raffi Hovannisian said at party’s congress today.

“Armenia should be able to speak to Russia directly and with dignity. What did we mean by prolonging deployment of Russian military base ten years prior to expiry date of the contract?” he wonders.  

Leader of Heritage party also pointed out Russia is supplying military equipment to Azerbaijan. “This treaty says issues on Armenia’s security are ensured jointly with Russia. I do not care whether it’s Russia or the United States, security of borders should be provided exclusively by the Armenian state. It is not criticism against Russia. Moscow advances its own interests, we must blame ourselves,” he concluded.
