Famous Turkish musician Yavuz Bingol has explained why he joined “Forgive Us, Armenians” campaign initiated by Turkish intellectuals.

Talking on TV Bingol responded to criticism voiced by the Turkish students, Turkish Sabah newspaper reports. “Haven’t you ever apologized even if you were right? My aunt was killed by Armenians but I decided to apologize to put an end to the Armenian issue,” he said.

He stressed he did not utter the word “genocide”. “The campaign was initiated with good intentions. There is an Azerbaijani and two Armenians in my band. When Hrant Dink was killed I could not look them in the eye. The Armenian issue is passed down from generation to generation in Turkey for 100 years. Once my daughter asked me what the Armenian issue is. I failed to answer. Let it be solved as soon as possible,” Bingol said.
