If Turkish Airlines (THY) makes a proposal to open an office in Yerevan the leadership of the Armenian civil aviation department will discuss it, head of the department Artyom Movsisyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He noted that the organization did not receive any proposals or applications from any air carrier over recent two weeks. Meanwhile, Turkish press has reported the company intends to open an office in Armenia.

“Probably they have published internal debates on business program. In any case Armenian civil aviation department has no information about THY’s intention to open an office here,” said Movsisyan. He also stressed there is no government decision on operation of flights between Armenia and Turkey. Each proposal will be discussed separately. Commenting on civil aviation department’s attitude if the proposal is received, Movsisyan noted it depends on flight planning and aviation programs that will be submitted.

The Armenian civil aviation department has signed agreements with 44 states.

Earlier this month Chairman of the Board of THY Hamdi Topcu said the company wants to become a bridge between Armenia and U.S. The company is doing everything so that Los-Angeles-Istanbul flight’s timetable will coincide with Istanbul-Yerevan flight, he added “An Armenian who will fly by THY will have to use the Istanbul airport and stay in the city for a day. In this case his attitude towards Turkey and Turks will change absolutely,” Topcu noted.
