YEREVAN. – The OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs’ statement during their regional visit will “put Azerbaijan into a straitjacket” keeping it from warlike statement and violations of ceasefire on the line of contact, Vice-Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Samvel Nikoyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The co-chairs’ statement must prove a guideline for the sides, he said. The co-chairs have until recently “confined themselves” to statement on incident on the line of contact.

“Their latest statement, however, is a practical step showing a way of conducting a transparent investigation with both conflicting parties’ involvement,” Nikoyan said.

The statement will also force Azerbaijan to stop issuing threat to shoot down planes flying to the Nagorno-Karabakh capital, Stepanakert, which were issued by the head of the Azerbaijani civil aviation department.

“Azerbaijan must realize that Yerevan and Stepanakert must have both land and air communication. Like many other unrecognized states, Nagorno-Karabakh has the right to air communication,” Nikoyan said.

In their latest statement, the OSCE MG Co-Chairs pointed out it is time for finalizing the basic principles of settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and drafting a peace agreement. The co-chairs welcome the sides’ statements that they reject any threats and attacks on aircraft.
