The U.S. Department of State’s report on human rights contains incomplete and distorted information on the problems of Armenians in Javakhk, Georgia, says a statement by the Coordinating Council for protection of Javakhk Armenians’ rights.

The report does not indicate violations of Javakh Armenians’ rights.

“Javakh Armenians’ socio-political life is under the Georgian military and police agencies’ immediate and total control. The 2010 municipal elections in the Armenian regions of Georgia were rigged in favor of the ruling party National Movement led by Mikheil Saakashvili,” the statement says.

The Coordinating Council calls on the U.S. authorities to provide a more impartial coverage of the Armenian population’s problems in Georgia and step up efforts to encourage Georgia to fulfill its international commitments to protect human rights and national minorities.
