French ambassador to Georgia Eric Fournier apologized for his interview given to one of the Georgian newspapers.

“The ambassador apologized to Georgian FM for misunderstanding and explained that his statement was independent from official Paris and did not reflect position of official France,” director of the department of European Affairs Gigi Gigiadze told at the interview with Imedi TV channel and added that Fournier was called to Georgian Foreign Ministry for clarifications.

French diplomat had commented on his interview given to Tbiliselebi newspaper recently. He had stated that it was his personal viewpoint and did not represent official position of France. According to ambassador, the question, whether France feels responsibility for Georgian war in 2008, had irritated him and caused an emotional answer. Fournier had also noted that no one knew who the Georgian TV channels belonged. According to the interview, Ambassador said that chief editors of media themselves choose themes and had also spoken on low qualification and self-censorship of Georgian journalists.
