YEREVAN. - The first competition day of New Wave 2011 international contest of young singers was held in Jurmala on Wednesday.

Famous Russian pop stars Valeri Leontev, Larisa Dolina and Babyface performed at the contest. The finalists performed world hits in their personal manner.

Armenia’s representative Erik was the first to perform at the contest. He sang Morcheeba’s “All Is Fear In Love” and ranked 9 in the standings with 108 points.

A total of 16 singers from 13 countries are attending the song contest.

The hosts of the contest are Sergei Lazarev, Lera, Julia Kovalchuk, Timur Rodriguez and Ksenia Sobchak.

Among jury members are Russian celebrities Igor Krutoy, Raymond Pauls, Yuri Antonov, Igor Nikolaev, Valeri Meladze, Layma Vaykule, Philip Kirkorov, Leonid Agutin, Valeria, Konstantin Meladze and Max Fadeev.
