YEREVAN. – Armenian National Assembly (NA) Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan met, on Tuesday in Berlin, with Norbert Lammert, President of the German Bundestag. Abrahamyan invited Lammert to Armenia and the latter accepted the invitation.

During the meeting, Hovik Abrahamyan congratulated and conveyed his well wishes on Germany’s upcoming national holiday, the German Unity Day, NA Press Service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am. Armenia’s parliament speaker noted that our country underscores expanding relations with Germany, and considers Armenian-German cooperation to be an important component in the general context of Armenia’s European integration policy. “Armenia anticipates Germany’s active engagement and assistance in Armenia’s European integration steps and projects, specifically within the framework of EU Eastern Partnership [Project],” Abrahamyan noted.

Hovik Abrahamyan and Norbert Lammert also emphasized the Bundestag-sponsored International Parliamentary Scholarship program, which is implemented for Armenia since 2008. This program is a good opportunity for Armenia’s youth to get closely familiarized with Germany’s political and economic structure.

Reflecting on the Armenian Genocide issue, Mr. Lammert noted that in 2005 the German parliament had adopted a resolution condemning the Genocide, the forcible exile of the Armenians, and also the German government’s role in this matter.

Armenia’s parliamentary delegation also toured the German Bundestag.
