YEREVAN. – After the decriminalization of the Libel law Armenia registered twenty nine lawsuits filed against press, eleven of which in the third term of this year. According to the head of the committee on protection of freedom of speech Ashot Melikyan, lawsuits are a sort of political pressure, accounting that majority of the suits is filed by political figures.  

Melikyan believes that serious reforms should be run in judicial system and make it independent ensuring normal conditions for media. Such lawsuits cause newspapers to go bankruptcy. The issue deepens more as newspapers try to solve it without making it public.
