In the past, the US has opposed Security Council resolutions, but this time, Washington's representative abstained in the vote.

The fact that the US did not block the current UN Security Council resolution speaks to the growing contradictions between Washington and Israel over the Gaza Strip operation.

In particular, US officials have criticized Israel over the growing number of civilian casualties in Gaza. According to the enclave's Hamas-controlled health ministry, more than 32,000 people have died in Gaza since the start of the war, most of them women and children.
