There are always discussions, Armenia takes into account all the benefits and harms that may occur in any decision. At the moment, we are a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), we fulfill our obligations, we pay general customs duties to the EAEU budget, and we receive our share from there; moreover, much less than we pay. Babken Tunyan, an MP of the ruling majority Civil Contract Faction of Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, stated this during a press briefing in the NA on Thursday—and referring to the reports that there is no consensus within the majority faction in terms of Armenia applying for European Union (EU) membership, taking into account the concerns that the country's economy is linked to Russian, and therefore problems may arise.

Tunyan added that in parallel, they are working also towards the integration with the EU and other markets.

"At the moment, there is no question of any major, drastic action. If there will a real conversation [in this regard], there will be a corresponding statement and communication," Tunyan said.

In turn, Marina Karapetyan, another Civil Contract Faction lawmaker, added that countries never refuse any market on their own if there is no specific political motive.

"Therefore, why should Armenia limit its markets by itself? It is about something else, that Armenia should expand, diversify its markets. We are moving in that direction. If it turns out that one more market will open up, it's great, if one more market becomes more limited, then we should look for alternative markets more intensively; this is the logic of the economy," she added.
