German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said she hoped Israeli authorities would adhere to international law in choosing a possible response to Iran's unprecedented attack.

"The right to self-defense means defense against attack. Retaliation is not a category of international law," she said on 15 April.

According to Baerbock, the Iranian regime has brought the entire Middle East region to the brink with its large-scale attack against Israel. "At the same time, this escalation has shown that the region supports Israel when it comes to containing Iranian dangerous behavior. Iran is isolated," she added.
