Russian boxer Roman Simakov received a fatal trauma during his match with Sergey Kovalev, and died in the hospital without regaining consciousness. He was 27.

As Lenta.ru informs linking on the Evening Gazette of Yekaterinburg, the match took place in Yekaterinburg on Monday. Simakov was fighting in the up to 79.4 kg. weight category and was defending his WBC Asian Champion title.

On the 6th round Simakov was knocked down and from that on the match took on a one sided character. On the 7th round the referees stopped the match and declared Kovalev as winner by a technical knock down.

Simakov was under surgery but he did not survive.

During his career Simakov fought 22 matches in the professional ring. He had 19 victories.
