Turkey must recognize the Armenian Genocide, while Armenia must get back its lands, said head of Russia’s Liberal-Democratic Party Vladimir Zhirinovsky.

"We welcome the decision by French lawmakers. About 1.5 million people are victims of the 1915 tragic event. It is blasphemous to turn a blind eye to it,” reads the statement posted on party’s website.

“Events of April 1915 are the darkest chapter in human history. Such a cruel extermination has never occurred in any European or Asian country.

Today the world is talking about democracy, and the entire international community must recognize the Armenian Genocide,” he stressed adding that Turkey itself must recognize the crime.

The French National Assembly passed, on December 22, the bill that criminalizes the denial of genocides. But the bill still needs to be approved by the French Senate. The bill sets a one-year prison sentence plus a 45-thousand-Euro fine for anyone who denies genocides.

And in reprisal to the passage of this bill, Turkey recalled its ambassador to France, and Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced Turkey’s eight-point sanctions against France.
