YEREVAN. – The passing 2011 was very positive in terms of music in Armenia, EMPYRAY rock band’s songwriter, composer Gisane Palyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am. In her words, several good concerts were held in the country this year.

As for Palyan, the year’s most important musical event in Armenia was the concert, in the capital Yerevan, by renowned rock musician, lead vocalist of System of a Down, Serj Tankian.

“Numerous people came to the concert, but one thing is bad. When foreign singers come to Armenia, this ought to encourage [musical] taste and satisfy the needs of the local audience. But the tickets for these concerts are very expensive, and they are not broadcast on television at all,” Palyan argued.

She also stressed that these concerts are not attended by the intellectuals, but rather by the solvent, who attend the concerts just for the sake of attending.

According to the composer, today’s television airwaves are full of poor-quality music, which forms a poor taste.

“Armenia does have an informed auditorium that understands and deserves quality music,” Gisane Palyan added.

Serj Tankian’s benefit concert in Yerevan was held on August 14.
