YEREVAN.- Head of the Armenian Cause (Hay Dat) ARF Dashnaktsutyun Giro Manoyan refrained from commenting whether Nicolas Sarkzoy is sincere in his intention to adopt the Armenia genocide bill ahead of elections.

“There is an opinion that Sarkozy is only playing a big game, I consider it too categorical. On the other hand, the French leader could have signed the bill in shorter time, but in this case a law, not a bill, would be examined for being constitutional,” he told journalists on Thursday.

In case the Constitutional Council decides that the bill fully or partially contradicts the Constitution, there will be no chance to ratify it ahead of the presidential elections. Then, the issue will remain on the agenda of the French parliament and the process will continue after the elections.

“In any case, the Armenian community of France continues its struggle,” he concluded.

French Senate adopted the bill criminalizing genocide denial, including that of the Armenian Genocide on January 23. However, a group of Senators appealed the bill in the Constitutional Council.
