MOSCOW. – Russia has received an invitation to participate in the meeting of Friends of Syria, however, will decline it, Russian MFA’s official representative Alexander Lukashevich said.

“There are more questions in connection to the event than answers. We were officially informed neither on the list of participants nor the agenda. Besides, the real direction of the initiative is unclear,” Russian MFA’s statement reads.

According to Lukashevich, groups of opposition members will arrive in Syria, while the representatives of the Syrian government have not been invited. It means the interests of major part of the country supporting the authorities will not be presented.

Tunisian FM Rafik Abdessalem has earlier informed that Russia will participate in the meeting. Earlier the spokesperson for the United States Department of State Victoria Nuland ruled out Russia and China from the list of Syria’s Friends.
