YEREVAN. – Onno Simons, Acting Head of Operations of the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia, is hopeful that EU’s likely actions with respect to Armenia—and in the case of insufficiently holding the parliamentary elections scheduled for May 2012 and the 2013 presidential elections—are theoretical. The EU representative himself stated this during a press conference on Thursday.

In his words, the forthcoming elections will be a test for Armenia. And, in this connection, he recalled that when implementing the Eastern Partnership Project they are guided by the policy of “more, for more.”

If the elections do not meet European and international standards, or if “everything goes so badly that Armenia does not pass the test,” according to Simons, the Armenia-EU relations will no longer improve. “We expect the elections to be free, fair, and successful,” Onno Simons stressed.
