YEREVAN. – 168 Zham daily interviewed Armenia’s Prosecutor General, Aghvan Hovsepyan. Below is an excerpt. 

Your name is likewise being circulated with respect to the forthcoming parliamentary elections. According to some rumors, in addition to the fact that your brother—the head of [capital Yerevan’s] Ajapnyak Administrative Region—is preparing to nominate his candidacy with the majority election system, they are saying that you, as an influential official, will support several majority [election] candidates. To what extent are these rumors true?

I, as Armenia’s Prosecutor General, will see to it that the reports, [and] alerts concerning election fraud be recorded and become a subject of investigation pursuant to the law, that those persons who have committed a criminal act be brought to account. And as a citizen, I will naturally make use of my constitutional right and participate in the elections, just like all citizens of Armenia. And concerning my brother, I must remind that at the time he was elected that administrative territory’s prefect by receiving the voters’ highest vote of confidence. And his own voters will support him.
