YEREVAN. – Well-informed sources report that Armenian Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan has petitioned to Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika, with a request that the investigators of the Investigative Committee of Armenia are given the opportunity to interrogate Valery Permyakov, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reported.

“As of yesterday [, Friday], the representatives of Armenia’s investigative bodies have not had a chance to interrogate Permyakov, to see him.

“The General Department of Investigations of the Investigative Committee of Armenia is conducting the investigation of the case into the slaughter on [Monday,] January 12. An investigative group has been set up, which includes investigators from the General Department of Investigations and the Shirak Regional Department of Investigation,” Haykakan Zhamanak wrote.

As reported earlier, six members of the Avetisyan family—including a two-year-old girl—were shot dead, and a six-month-old baby boy was wounded in their house in Gyumri, Armenia, on Monday. Valery Permyakov, a serviceman of the 102nd Russian Military Base in the city, stands accused in this crime.

The soldier is charged under Russian law, with “the murder of more than two people,” and “desertion with a service weapon.” The Investigative Committee of Armenia also has launched a criminal case on the murders. The Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia had said Permyakov will face justice under Russian law.
