YEREVAN. – Well-informed sources claim that the scandal in the press, and with respect to the wife of Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan of the Republic of Armenia (RA), also has domestic political reasons, reported Haykakan Zhamanak daily.

“Accordingly, Ohanyan loses the prospect for becoming the government candidate for the [next] RA President.

“According to our sources, [incumbent President] Serzh Sargsyan for some reason changed his mind on the matter of Ohanyan, and [now,] he views CC [i.e. Constitutional Court] President Gagik Harutyunyan as the future presidential candidate [of the current authorities].

“If the authorities successfully implement the constitutional reforms and transition to a parliamentary model of governance, the parliament shall elect a president that has symbolic powers. [And] in this case, Harutyunyan can be viewed as a presidential candidate,” wrote Haykakan Zhamanak.
