YEREVAN. – Chairman of the Union of Armenians of Russia, businessman Ara Abrahamyan’s entry into Armenia’s politics was not accepted unequivocally among the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), reported Zhamanak daily.

“Abrahamyan basically comes, with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s name on his lips, to open a [political] party in Armenia, and declares that you cannot joke around with him.

“Naturally, a question rises among the RPA circles: Is Abrahamyan joking? Or does he really come on behalf of Putin?

“And naturally, Abrahamyan’s bid causes concerns in the RPA (…) that if Abrahamyan really comes on behalf of Putin, he will claim a significant place in the [Armenian] parliament.

“However, there are no firm guarantees whether or not Putin backs Abrahamyan. And naturally, a trepidation rises, and which bornes ambiguous perceptions,” wrote Zhamanak.
