YEREVAN. – A considerable amount of tomatoes from Turkey was imported to Armenia since December last year. The owners of mid-size greenhouses in Armenia, and who are convinced that the import of these tomatoes was not processed at the Armenian border, told this to Haykakan Zhamanak daily, the latter reported.

“That is, during customs clearance of these tomatoes, they were presented under another product name, or they were not registered and not cleared from [Armenian] customs at all.

“There is no legal obstacle for importing Turkish tomatoes to Armenia. According to an arrangement made between the [Armenian] businessmen, however, imports of Turkish tomatoes were not carried out in recent years.

“If the information by the greenhouse owners corresponds to reality, it would mean some ‘businessmen’ have violated this arrangement,” Haykakan Zhamanak wrote.
