YEREVAN. – In an interview with Aravot daily, US Ambassador to Armenia, John Heffern, spoke about his recent meeting with Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan.

‘“My interest was an observer’s interest,’ the ambassador said reflecting on the reason for his interest, during the meeting with the Prosecutor [General], in the incidents that occurred [i.e., the fatal shootout] on June 1 in front of the home of former Governor Surik Khachatryan of Syunik Region.

“According to him, the international community is interested in this case so that the process is kept under the law. ‘The Prosecutor [General] presented the situation; it was a useful meeting.’

“To our query as to whether he is satisfied with the details which the Prosecutor [General] presented on the examination of the case, the ambassador responded: ‘I do not want to speak on the details of this case, now. It’s just that the interest of the international community is that everyone is equally brought to justice. Our conversation was about this principle,’” Aravot writes.
