YEREVAN. – Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan has started to work quite actively, in recent times, to become the successor of President Serzh Sargsyan, Zhoghovurd daily reports.

“What is more, as Zhoghovurd’s sources inform, he has begun to take—through most various channels—an oath of loyalty to the Russian authorities, to show that ‘he is their man,’ ‘he is trustworthy,’ and so on.

“[But] in response to Zhoghovurd’s query in this regard, PM’s spokesperson Harutyun Berberyan denied the news about the wish [of Tigran Sargsyan] to become [President] Sargsyan’s successor.

‘“As to the second part of your question, we have wonderful relations with our Russian associates,’” Zhoghovurd writes.

Following the talks that were held on September 3, 2013 in Moscow between Armenian and Russian Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, Sargsyan had announced that Armenia plans to join the Customs Union and subsequently engage in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union. And the road map for Armenia’s accession to the Customs Union was recently introduced. Aside from Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan likewise are members in the Customs Union.
