YEREVAN. – Armenia awaits Ukrainian Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Kukhta, who had left for Kyiv for consultations, to return to Yerevan by April 20 and continue to carry out his duties as before, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reported.

“In an interview with our correspondent, however, Ukrainian analyst Ruslan Bortnik informed that the ambassador will hardly return before fall, and an altogether new ambassador who, unlike the current ambassador, will be appointed by Ukraine`s new leadership, may arrive in Yerevan.

‘“The Ukrainian ambassador to Armenia should be expected in late summer or early fall, since according to some projections, the formal normalization of relations [between Armenia and Ukraine] is forecast for that time,’ the Ukrainian analyst told our correspondent,” Haykakan Zhamanak wrote.

Armenia was among the eleven countries that voted against the UN General Assembly resolution which declares invalid Crimea’s recent referendum calling for joining Russia. In addition, 58 countries abstained from voting on this resolution, whereas 100 countries voted in its favor. The UN General Assembly resolutions, however, are merely consultative.
