YEREVAN. – Russian Federation Foreign Affairs Minister Sergei Lavrov, who had arrived in Azerbaijan days ago, was in Armenia on an official visit since Sunday, June 22, Aravot daily reported.

“It is noteworthy that OSCE Minsk Group Russian Co-Chair Igor Popov likewise had arrived in [capital city] Yerevan together with Lavrov. This is perhaps an indication that Lavrov discussed some matters with the Armenian authorities regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh [conflict] settlement process.

“[But] Lavrov’s Yerevan visit did not shed light on the issue of Armenia’s joining the Eurasian Union. We were [solely] informed from the Presidential [Office’s] message that [FMs] Lavrov and [Edward] Nalbandian had discussed the processes of Armenia’s joining the Eurasian economic integration.

“In actual fact, Lavrov and Nalbandian had nothing new to announce about Armenia’s Eurasian fate,” Aravot wrote.
